Counselling for Teens

ADHD: Creative but overwhelmed

You love your amazing, creative child, but are at a loss of how to help them. Their ADHD has created struggles academically and socially. They try hard, they’re smart, but they struggle to focus. They have begun to realize that everyone always finishes their work before them and they are beginning to ask “what’s wrong me?” and “why is it so hard and take so much time for me to finish assignments?”.

You try to help, but nothing seems to work

And at home, you are frustrated with their clutter and disorganization. They don't listen and getting them to complete chores results in arguments. Through the years, things have gotten worse. Your precious child, so creative and imaginative, is starting to believe they are worthless because they are different from others. Your child has struggled, feeling there's something wrong with them because they don't fit into the box. Their creative and imaginative strengths are often disregarded and not valued, leaving them feeling “different” or “stupid”. You know that’s not true, but you struggle to know how to help.

As you see them sink deeper into feelings of inadequacy, increasing anxiety and decreasing mood, you’re desperately searching for a support that will embrace their strengths and creativity, someone who can help them love themselves again.

Embracing their imagination with creative counselling.

I help teens who feel different, excluded and minimized discover their strengths and learn to embrace the amazing mind they have. Hello, my name is Beth Wocks and I am a Master’s level registered Social Worker in Red Deer, AB.

I meet my client’s creativity in the sand tray. Here they can be their genuine selves, creating and expressing their feelings and struggles in a visual way, allowing them to feel seen and heard, helping them make sense of the clutter in their minds and allowing them space to really explore the gifts of who they are. I am here to help them build skills and uncover their unique, creative self. Sessions will encourage creativity and exploration, outside the box of traditional talk therapy, as we work through life’s struggles.

Parents of school aged children often wonder how to help their ADHD child. I work with parents to help them understand the strengths and struggles of the ADHD brain, encouraging parents in how they can be the best support and advocate for their child.
